Burglars loot Rs 35 lakh from bank, steal CCTV

There was no security guard posted at the bank

Hyderabad: Burglars struck at Deccan Grameena bank Jeedimetla and decamped with Rs 35 lakh in cash on Tuesday.

The gang entered into the bank by breaking a window grill with gas cutters early in the morning. They opened the safe with the cutters and took away the money. A safe containing gold remained intact.

The files and papers in the bank caught fire and the locals noticed alerted the police. Cops said that either the burglars must have set it ablaze, or there must have been an accidental fire after they used the gas cutter.

The offenders took away the CCTV camera storage device leaving police with no footage of the incident. Cops cannot even guess the time of the incident, and how many were involved.

The incident came to light at around 7.45 am when the locals noticed smoke coming out of the bank. According to Mr M. Ravi Chandan Reddy, ACP of Malkajgiri, the thieves broke open three safes inside the bank.

“There is no strong room in the building. The offenders just needed to break into the building through the window and open the safe with the cutters. In the three safes they opened, one was filled with documents and checkbooks, and they took money from the other safes,” said the ACP.

There was no security guard posted at the bank.

“The local SHO had given them notices to appoint one. However, they did not listen,” said Mr Chandan Reddy.

Investigation officials inpected the scene with CLUES team and fingerprint experts. Special teams have been formed to solve the case.

Officials said that a professional gang is involved in the burglary as they have done it without attracting any attention from the local residences.
