MDMK walks out of BJP-led NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu

MDMK chief Vaiko on Monday announced his party’s decision to quit the BJP-led NDA

New Delhi: MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Monday announced his party’s decision to quit the BJP-led NDA accusing the Modi government of going back on promises to help the people of Tamil Nadu and the Tamils in Sri Lanka on various critical issues. MDMK is the first ally to quit NDA.

However the BJP remained unfazed. Senior BJP leader and Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said the government was doing its best to protect the interests of Tamils in Sri Lanka and needed to maintain better ties with the country.

“We cannot have a partner opposing the government. If somebody is not happy, we cannot help,” he said.

BJP general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao said the departure of MDMK would not have any impact on the BJP in the Tamil Nadu.
