Jisna breaks Tintu record at meet
Thiruvananthapuram: Jisna Mathew, a ward of P.T. Usha, broke international athlete Tintu Luka’s meet record on the very first day of the 58th Kerala State Schools Athletics Championship held here on Monday. She broke Tintu’s 56.41 (2005) with a record time of 56.04 in junior girls’ 400 m race.
“I had expected the medal and I am happy that I broke the record of Tintu chechi. We train together at the academy and I’m sure she too will be happy for me,” said an excited Jisna.
The meet held at the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) stadium, Kariavattom, saw four more records being broken on the first day.
While Shijo Mathew of Government VHSS, Mathirappilly, set a record in senior boys’ discuss throw with 40.71 metres, Bibin George with 8:46.66 broke Muhammed Afsal’s record of 08:53.04 in junior boys’ 3000m race.
P.S. Kiran Nath of GHSS, Chembuchira, beat Jikku Joseph’s record of 48.49 m with his score of 50.99 m in junior boys’ javelin throw (700 gm). In senior boys’ long jump, Joffin K. J. of Mar Basil HSS, Kothamangalam, set a record with his score of 7.51 metres.
