Heavy agenda in Parliament to be discussed this week
New Delhi: The stalemate in Rajya Sabha over controversial remarks of Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Bharati threatened to spill over to another week beginning on Monday with the Union government pushing the ball over ending the impasse into the court of Opposition, which rejected any compromise without a resolution to this effect on the floor of the House.
Notwithstanding the current impasse, the government has listed a heavy agenda for the coming week in both the Houses with Lok Sabha set to discuss the issue of dilution of the MGNREGA and the Coal Ordinance is expected to be taken up during the week.
Congress’ deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma said that the impasse in the House would continue till the government responds positively to their dem-and of passing a resolution condemning such statements.
The Centre’s line of thinking on this issue was clear from a late night statement by parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu who rem-inded the Opposition that it was the responsibility of both “treasury benches and opposition parties” to run the Parliament.
