Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police has cracked the BMW car theft by arresting a BTech graduate in connection with the crime. However, they are yet to confirm the arrest.
The accused, identified as Suman, took to crime due to his love for luxuries. He used to target cars parked at pubs and other places visited by customers with costly cars.
He diverts the attention of security personnel at the valet parking and steals the key. The police seized three cars from him including a BMW and a Verna.
Sources said Suman who is from a well off family visits pubs and plush hotels like a customer. In the BMW case in which an advocate’s car was stolen from the valet parking of Hotel Daspalla in Jubilee Hills, Suman waited till the closing time of the pub.
He executed his plan when the crowd was coming out of the pub to the valet parking area to collect their parked cars and other vehicles.
Suman went to the valet parking area and like any other visitor approached the security personnel handling the keys at the parking.
He pretended that he had parked his car and on the pretext of attending a phone call he diverted the attention of the security guard and stole the key, a source said.
Suman picks up keys randomly from the valet parking and drives away cars. In one year he had stolen three cars including a BMW and a Verna. He takes the vehicles to his friends and shows them off. It is also learnt that he entertained girlfriends and took them for rides in stolen cars.
Last Saturday, Kishore, an advocate and owner of the BMW car lodged a complaint after his car was stolen from Hotel Daspalla. The CCTV footage at the hotel helped the cops to identify the thief.
