Spieth keeps lead on rain-hit day

Tiger Woods charge on day two was ruined by double-bogey

Orlando (USA): Rain returned to haunt the action but could do little to change Tiger Woods’ fortunes on Day Two of the Hero World Challenge at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club at Windermere near here. The five-time event winner had set out to make a comeback after the first day’s horrors and looked well on track to getting his score into the sub-par region, but a finishing double-bogey ruined his charge.

Tiger continues to bring up the rear in this elite 18-man invitational field hosted by his foundation and Hero Motorcorp, adding a two-under par 70 on the day to finish on three-over par 147. Defying fading light and frequent rain interruptions, Jordan Spieth continued to play some outstanding golf on his way to retaining the lead with an 11-under with a hole to play.

Going out in level par 36 inclusive of a double bogeyed sixth, he reeled off birdies almost at will on his back nine, racking up five in eight holes played before he and Zack Johnson decided to down clubs on the 18th.

Speaking after his incomplete round, tournament leader Spieth pointed to the rain break in helping his score better on his back nine. “Yeah, the rain break definitely helped. It firmed up the conditions and stabilised the greens.”
