Guwahati: The DGP of Assam Khagen Sarma said that Shahnoor Alom, the Burdwan accused, had developed a good rapport with JMB leaders of Bangladesh.
He said that the JMB may have an agenda to spread its network in Assam and West Bengal but it was at a very initial stage and fledgling in some pockets of the state.
Mr Sarma also clarified that it was not that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind or some madrasas are helping them, but jihadi forces are using these organisations as shields to pursue their subversive agenda.
He admitted that some madrasas of the state are on their radar but clarified that the inputs are that jihadi elements would try to exploit the situation.
Security sources, however, said that Shahnoor, who was on the run, was persuaded not to evade arrest.
The police had arrested Shahnoor’s wife Sujina Begum in Guwahati in November.
