CBSE for roping schools to road safety drive

The 36 best entries will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2500 each

Kochi: Students and staff of CBSE schools have been invited to join a drive to make road safety a national movement by the Central Board of Secondary Education, which has joined hands with the Union ministry of road transport and highways to make it a success.

To begin with, the students and staff will submit short films for a Road Safety India contest and the winning entries will be screened during the 26th National Road Safety Week running from January 11 to 17.

The films will revolve around over speeding, overloading, drunk driving, use of helmets, cyclists’ safety and so on.

“We have opened the contest to all citizens of the country, who can join it till December 15. To register you have to send a mail to p.singhal@nic.in with the requisite details.

Entries will have to be submitted on the same email address,” said Ms Sadhana Parashar, director, academics, CBSE, explaining that more information was available on the CBSE website.

The first prize is Rs 2 lakh, the second , Rs 1 lakh, and the third, Rs 50,000. There are five consolation prizes of Rs 20,000 each.

The CBSE has also asked students to compose their own poems on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, the patriot poet who fought the British, on December 11.

The contest is open to all schools affiliated to the board or any recognised state board across the country.

The subjects of the poems will be announced on December 10. Entries can be submitted online, offline and on Whatsapp on December 11 from 9 am to 5.30 pm. in English and in 22 scheduled languages. The 36 best entries will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2500 each.
