BJP worker allegedly burned with cigarette butts for participating in Amit Shah’s Kolkata rally
Kolkata: In a shocking incident, a BJP worker was tortured with burning cigarette butts by workers of the Trinamool Congress for attending BJP chief Amit Shah’s rally held in the city, a week ago.
According to Bishnu Chowdhury, TMC supporters dragged him out of his house and beat him up. They also threatened him and demanded him to join the Trinamool Congress.
After he refused to join their party, he was burnt with cigarette butts.
Chowdhury has filed a complaint to the local police station. The National Human Rights Commission has also been sent the complaint.
Meanwhile, TMC leaders have denied the involvement of its cadres in the incident calling it a ‘plan’ of the BJP.
The tussle between BJP and Trinamool Congress has taken an ugly turn in West Bengal. Rampant clashes have also led to deaths in the state.
Earlier, police had refused BJP chief Amit Shah to hold a rally at Kolkata’s Victoria House.
During his rally, Shah hit out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and raised questions over her ‘defending’ perpetrators of the Burdwan blast.
