Two LeT militants killed in Srinagar

The incident came hours after the deadliest attack at an Army base at Mohura

Srinagar: Two Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militants including one of its most wanted commanders, Qari Asrar, were killed in a fire fight with J&K police at Onta Bhawan, about 10-km from Srinagar City centre Lal Chowk, on Friday.

The incident came hours after the deadliest attack at an Army base at Mohura close to the Line of Control (LoC) that left 11 security personnel and all the six militants dead and preceded two grenade explosions in the towns of Tral and Shopian in south of the Valley.

While in one of these explosions, two civilians were killed and 23 others and also a CRPF jawan were injured, the other hurled at a police station caused only minor damage to the premises and no casualties.

DGP, K. Rajendra Kumar, confirmed one of the militants killed in retaliatory fire at Onta Bhawan here was Lashkar-e-Tayyaba co-mmander, Qari Asrar, and said it was a chance enc-ounter. “The security across the State has been tightened further,” he said.
