Nizamabad: Minister for major irrigation T. Harish Rao on Friday called upon the NRIs to involve in Mission Kakatiya, a flagship programme of the Telangana government, by adopting their native villages and water tanks.
Addressing a review meeting with peoples’ representatives and officials here, he said the tanks would be named after the loved ones of the NRI who adopt them.
Tanks’ restoration would provide water agriculture besides improving ground water at Zilla Parishad meeting hall on Friday, he said that People, especially from Nizamabad, who have settled in western and Gulf countries came forward for the cause, he said and added that 46,531 water tanks across the state will be restored in phased manner.
“In the first phase, 20 per cent of total tanks will be restored by May 31, 2015. About 26 lakh acres will be irrigated in the state by storing 265 tmc water in the tanks. There is no paucity of funds and e-tenders for the works have been invited,” he said.
Stating that the government would provide sufficient funds and equipment for the implementation of Mission Kakatiya, Mr Rao warned that they would take stern action if any irregularities were found.
