PM Narendra Modi's appeal falls to deaf ears again
New Delhi: The Opposition parties on Friday rejected a fresh appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking them to show “magnanimity” by ending the stalemate over the controversial remarks by Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and insisted on adoption of a resolution in the Rajya Sabha condemning her remarks.
In the Lok Sabha, Mr Modi made a brief statement disapproving of Ms Jyoti’s remarks, saying nobody can approve of “such things,” and asked the Opposition to treat the issue as a closed chapter as the minister had apologised for her comments.
The Congress, Trinamool and some other parties had each come to the House with their mouths covered with a black cloth.
The Rajya Sabha could not transact any business as leaders of nine Opposition parties issued a joint statement seeking a resolution condemning Ms Jyoti’s remarks.
