Chennai: The Left parties will continue to mount pressure inside Parliament as well as outside until BJP’s Union minister of state Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti was dismissed for her hate speech which had insulted the Indian people, said CPI state secretary D. Pandian.
Addressing a press conference here to announce the Left parties’ week-long statewide campaign from December 8 to 14 against the BJP government’s economic policy and growing communal disturbances in the country, Mr Pandian said that there could not be a greater insult than that delivered by the BJP minister, which only showed her ignorance of the epic, Ramayana.
“The BJP minister has asked the people whether they wanted the rule of those following Ram or of those who were born illegitimately? Her speech was aimed to incite a communal clash,” said CPI (M) State Secretary G. Ramakrishnan.
He added that after the BJP came to power at the Centre, it had been trying to impose Hindutuva ideologies in education and cultural institutions. Criticising the economic policy pursed by the Narendra Modi government, Mr Pandian said that the price of crude oil in the international market had come down to $61 from $120 but the prices of petrol and diesel in the country had not reduced similarly.
However, the Central and State governments had increased taxes on petrol and diesel, he said. The campaign would highlight the policies affecting the people’s livelihoods and fight corruption, he said.
