CRPF numbers swell by 624 cops

624 constable recruits completed their training, with AP contributing 452

Chennai: Perseverance combined with the basic training provided here will do you good while serving in remote areas across the country, ADGP, south zone, CRPF, Satendra Pal Singh, told Central Reserve Police Force constable recruits at the passing out parade at Avadi. Constable recruits, 624 of them, from across the states would be added to the CRPF strength with a batch passing out of the recruit training centre (RTC) at Avadi on Friday.

With the force bearing the brunt of a Naxalite ambush in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, that left 14 of their personnel dead less than a week ago, the ADGP did not mince words while telling what he expects from the recruits.“We are expected to fight the Naxalite insurgency in states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar, for which the rigorous training here is imperative,” he said, asking the recruits to serve the force with great pride and honour.

Speaking to DC on the sidelines of the event, the ADGP said the force always plans on different strategies to combat issues in the Naxalite-affected areas. Though these recruits will not be directly posted in these areas, the basic training here plus a few on field modifications is necessary to keep them battle-ready, he said.

In all, 624 constable recruits completed their 44-week training at the RTC, with Andhra Pradesh contributing 452. While 512 of the constable recruits have completed high school, 112 are graduates, according to an official statement.

“The recruits were put through 44 weeks of basic indoor and outdoor training including four weeks of jungle training and a week of survival exercise with limited ration in the dense forests,” Mathew A. John, commandant, RTC, CRPF, Avadi, said.
