Colour of Trans answer to BJP’s jibe

The leader made fun of the whole community

KOZHIKODE: BJP leader K Surendran never in his wildest dreams thought that his comment over the ‘Kiss of Love protest’ as that of a Chanthupottu (transgender) protest, would be instrumental in bringing a group of transgender theater activists all the way from Chennai to Kozhikode to give him a fitting answer.

The members of popular transgender theatre group ‘Panmai’, would stage the play ‘Colour of Trans’ as an answer to the ‘humiliating’ approach of Sangh Parivar outfits to transgender communities.

Talking to DC, one of the members of the theater group Living Smile Vidya says, “The statement disturbed us terribly and our identity was questioned. The leader made fun of the whole community and this is the only reason why we are here”.

Vidya adds, “We have also decided to stay back for the Kiss of Love protest here and we consider it as the right platform for us to show our agitational approach to such moral policing actions.”

But reacting to the statement of the Panmai members, BJP state leader K Surendran claimed that he had not tried to demoralize any particular community of people. He claimed that he had just used a term that was very popularly used among Keralites.

Focusing on gender diversity and spreading the message of equality through theatre, ‘Colour of Trans,’ the multilingual play, will feature stories about transgenders and the nuances in their lives through six episodes.
