Seniors assault student for staring at them in Bengaluru, two people arrested
Bengaluru: An 18-year-old first PU student has been hospitalised since November 22 for critical injuries and has undergone a series of surgeries after one of his seniors and two other out-of-college youths beat him up near his college in Richmond Town on that fateful day. The police have arrested two of the accused, both 19 years old, and are on the lookout for the third youth, who managed to escape.
The police said that the only crime of the victim, Syed Muzammil, and his friend Rihaan was to “stare” at their senior Manoj the previous day. The next day, a Saturday, Manoj called his two friends, Imran and Shakir, near the college and attacked Rihaan near Johnson Market.
Syed, who had gone to college, saw Rihaan being targeted and tried to protect him. But the attackers turned on him and hit him on the head with hockey sticks, leaving him critically injured.
Syed has since been admitted to St. Philomena’s Hospital for severe head injuries and has undergone multiple surgeries. Though the doctors have said that he is out of danger, his condition is said to be still critical. He is scheduled to undergo one more surgery on December 8.
“It was a fight over a trivial issue and my son has been subjected to a near-death experience. We have already spent more than '5 lakh on Syed’s treatment,” said Syed Nasir, Muzammil’s father.
The Ashok Nagar police have arrested Manoj and Shakir, and are on the lookout for the third accused, Imran. The arrested have been booked for attempt to murder and remanded to judicial custody.
