New Janata Parivar outfit may be non-starter
New Delhi: With the Trinamool and Bahujan Samaj Party staying away, the move to stitch an umbrella Janata Parivar outfit is likely to be a non-starter.
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has been tasked with drawing up the modalities of forming an united outfit.
The proponents of such a united outfit met Thursday at the residence of the SP chief to find common ground against the ruling BJP.
The leaders of the SP, JD(U), RJD, JD(S) and the INLD met for the second time on Thursday.
Former Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said, “We authorised the SP chief to arrive at modalities for the possible merger of like-minded outfits to form a grand Janata Parivar party. Till then, we decided to take a united stand issues like black money, unemployment, farmers’ distress.” These parties will hold a joint protest against the government over black money on December 22, Mr Kumar added.
The proposed Janata Parivar outfit, that some started calling the Samajwadi Janata Dal, may lack the muscle of an effective Opposition, as the Trinamool and the BSP have little interest in joining hands with the new political entity.
“The proponents of the Janata Parivar are all those who have been defeated in the recent Lok Sabha elections. We along with the BJD and AIADMK were the only winners, and none of us will be with them,” said a Trinamool leader.
The bonding of those behind the new outfit with the Left is likely to keep the Trinamool away, while the SP and BSP are old rivals and have mutually exclusive constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
