TPCC leaders lack unity, strategy: Sonia, Rahul told
Hyderabad: The Congress in Telangana is weathering a severe storm. Lack of unity, absence of a strategy to counter the TRS, in house ego problems among senior leaders and non-functional party frontal organisations are crippling the party.
A few leaders from the Telangana state met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi recently and lodged complaints.
The leaders reportedly told the Congress president and vice-president that if the present dispensation continues, they fear the Congress may lose its strength and image in Telangana in the coming months.
Going by the nature of the complaints, they have said the TPCC and CLP leaders have ego problems with the result there is no clarity on the issues that need to be taken up.
Even the frontal organisations like women, youth, students, and farmers are not functioning. They did not protest when Shamshabad Airport was renamed after NTR, replacing Rajiv Gandhi’s name.
Similarly in the two houses of the Legislature, lack of coordination between the Council and Assembly leaders lead to each one adopting a different stance on public issues.
“More than the Congress, which is the main Opposition party, Telugu Desam scored in the recently concluded Assembly session,” a complainant stated.
According to sources, Congress Nagarkurnool MP Nandi Yellaiah, Council deputy leader Ponguleti Sudhakara Reddy, senior MP V. Hanumantha Rao and a few others met Mrs Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi and submitted detailed reports on the functioning of the party and its units in Telangana.
When contacted, Mr Sudhakara Reddy refused to disclose the contents of a report he submitted. “It is a fact that I have submitted a report to Mr Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi, but I cannot disclose the contents,” Mr Sudhakara Reddy said.
