Telangana constitutes Inter Board, Andhra Pradesh to seek legal recourse
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has officially started the exercise of conducting separate Intermediate exams.
In a major jolt to the AP government, TS has officially constituted the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TBIE) and also issued orders asking the TBIE to conduct separate Intermediate exams by employing the staff of the existing undivided BIE.
Telangana education minister G. Jagadish Reddy had squarely laid the blame on the Andhra Pradesh government saying that the AP representatives had not come for talks when Telangana had proposed common exams with the existing BIE under its control.
Reacting to the development, Andhra Pradesh HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the AP government was left with no option other than the legal route and said he would discuss the latest turn of events with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday.
The TS government issued the orders after Mr Jagadish Reddy met Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday afternoon.
The TBIE has been officially constituted with Shailaja Ramaiyer as secretary and Mr Jagadish Reddy as chairman of the Board. Retired IAS officer M. Veerabhadraiah and retired Chief Controller of Exams Mukthadar have been appointed as legal consultants.
In another order, the Telangana government stated: “The government hereby accords permission to the secretary, Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education, for conducting of Intermediate Public Examinations, March, 2015, through Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education, Hyderabad, duly taking necessary requisite staff from the undivided Board.”
Asked if the Telangana government was now going ahead with separate exams on its own, a senior official privy to the developments, answered in the affirmative.
The turn of events has come as a surprise since both sides held a high level meet with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Wednesday to resolve the issue.
Even on Thursday morning, Mr Narasimhan had said that talks with both governments were in progress and an amicable solution would be worked out soon.
It is learnt that the TS CM asked Mr Jagadish Reddy on Thursday to go ahead with separate exams as per the schedule already announced. Exams are to be held from March 9 in the state.
