Tech students to get industry guidance
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has proposed the introduction of a hybrid curriculum in engineering courses with online lectures becoming a part of the usual classroom education. Experts from the industry have also been asked to give lectures in engineering colleges at frequent intervals. Officials said, a task force would be constituted to suggest changes in the existing curriculum in each stream of engineering, taking in suggestions from the industry and other experts so that students were acquainted with the latest trends in the industry.
IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said that the government would bring in a legislation, if required, to completely change the existing education system.
The government held a preliminary meeting with industry representatives, universities and colleges on Thursday.
In the meeting, Mr Rao said, “The government is considering setting up a network of academicians from research institutions, industry representatives and start-ups to build up the entrepreneurial skills of students.”
All stakeholders in the meet agreed on the need to introduce virtual classrooms and the government is also considering the introduction of hybrid curricula where credits will be allotted to certain subjects, which will be purely industry-based and completely online, delivered by experts from the industry.
N.V. Ramana Rao, Reg-istrar, JNTU-H, said, “Currently, there is no industry-student interaction. Industry can teach students through virtual classrooms.”
Proposals for finishing schools also came up where students could train for about 60 to 90 days to suit the industry requirements. Another aspect was that of tier 1 and 2 institutions which hardly attract larger companies for placements. The Chief Minister had suggested that students from these institutions could be brought to JNTU-H for training.
