Hyderabad: With an increasing number of land owners resisting the surrender of their lands for the capital city, the Cabinet sub-committee on land pooling has tentatively decided to increase the remuneration from the proposed Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre per annum.
A member of the Cabinet sub-committee said, “Farmers holding river-front lands are claiming that they raise three crops a year and that the remuneration should be at least Rs 1 lakh per acre per annum.
We have been interacting with the farmers of Tullur and Mangalagiri mandals, and the impression we have got is that they are willing to surrender their lands, but they want a better deal.”
Several farmers, holding lands away from the river, have expressed their willingness to surrender land with a request to enhance the beneficiary package from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000.
Farmers with land near the river are seeking up to Rs 1 lakh. There are others who want to be paid the present market value for the land being sought for the capital.
“There are different demands coming from landlords and farmers from the villages in capital city area. These demands are based on the location of land, yield and its open market value.
The farmers of villages like Mandadam and Undavalli are demanding a better package. Even the government is prepared to offer different packages depending upon the land’s location, agricultural yield and its vicinity to the river.
The maximum amount tentatively decided for lands near the river-side is Rs 50,000 per annum per acre,” the minister said.
Farmers from the capital city area are likely to be brought to the city on December 6 for an interaction with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
