No country for ailing men, DMK president Karunanidhi finds out
Chennai: “Tamil Nadu's present Chief Minister Panneerselvam had given a statement. I came here believing him. But, there was no proper seating arrangement for people like me, who are ailing. I have seen ailing people participate in Parliament proceedings. I came here believing such facilities would have been made available. But it is painful to see how people feel it would be better that I left the place," Mr Karunanidhi told reporters outside the Assembly.
The wheelchair-bound former chief minister turned up in the Assembly after chief minister O. Panneerselvam criticised DMK leader for not attending the Assembly and dared him to attend the session. The DMK chief had said he would happily oblige if assured of a proper seat.
Pointing out his 50 years of experience in the Assembly, he said he came because of the open invitation by the CM. "I came here not expecting a grand reception but a seat to participate in the discussion. In prevailing set up, I cannot even enter the House," he said, adding that he thought at least a separate chair would be kept for him even that was not made. "So, I have come to understand that they do not like me to participate in the House proceedings," he said.
