Meet discusses IS, lone wolves

The cyber vigil of Hyderabad’s police was appreciated at the conference

Hyderabad: The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has now become a major concern for Indian security agencies. The fact that ISIS has begun to strike roots in India has been accepted by security agencies and it was one of the prime issues discussed at the annual police conference held at Guwahati.

Sources said that the possibilities of ISIS having contacts in cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Benguluru and other major cities and the ‘lone wolf attacks’ called by ISIS were also discussed.

The IB has already sent an alert regarding possibilities of ‘lone wolf attacks’ on Western targets in major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Sources said the presentations were mainly given by IB and RAW officials, who focused on ISIS and Left extremism.

The officials recognised the good work done by the Hyderabad police who found that several youngsters were getting attracted towards ISIS and alerted their parents and also counseled them to stay away from terrorist Net sites. A software professional was bound over for getting attracted to ISIS and was let off with a warning. The cyber vigil of Hyderabad’s cops was appreciated at the conference, sources said.

Meanwhile, security agencies were told to increase cyber vigilance and to protect Western targets in India.
