THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Mr Oommen Chandy on Thursday assured representatives of Kerala Vyaparai Vyavasayi Ekopna Samithi (KVVES) that their demands would be considered sympathetically by the government.
At the meeting which was also attended by five other minsters, the KVVES leaders raised issues like proposed amendment to rent control act and protection of shopkeepers and workers rights, on line trading, power and water tariff for commercial purpose, turn over tax and raids by sales tax department officials.
The KVVES leaders urged the government to curb checks being conducted by authorities in shops in the name of VAT.
They told the ministers that officials were carrying out raids on shops on flimsy grounds. The issue of withdrawal of 2 per cent turnover tax on sale of textile goods would be discussed with the Finance Minister.
KVVES members had resorted to massive protests in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
