Fake Babas offer love remedies

Get the girl’s pic, pay the fees and she is yours, say Babas

Hyderabad: The city’s fake Babas are now coming up with new ideas. They are now offering love solutions, that is they offer to get you the girl you want. Whoever might be the girl, just get her photograph, pay the fees and the girl is yours. This is what the Babas promise.

Bhaskar is one of the victims who lost his money running around Babas believing their promises to get him the girl he liked. “Seeing their advertisement in a local TV channel I approached a Baba at Lalapet. When I phoned him I was told to get the photograph of the girl whom I wanted. Seeing the photograph and my details he asked me to pay Rs 5,000 for the pooja and promised the girl will herself propose to me within a week,” said Bhaskar.

Seeing no results Bhaskar approached another Baba at Kacheguda. But this time he used the photograph of a model to test the man’s credibility. Without knowing whether she was a model or his girlfriend the new Baba told the same story and charged more fees for his Vashikaran pooja.

“Though we realised that they were cheats we couldn’t report the matter to the police as we might get exposed,” Bhaskar said.

Baba Ajmal Shah, Baba Osman Shah, Baba Sikander Shah are some of the names which often appear in local TV channels and on posters in buses. They promise to solve all problems with their Vashikaran specialties. Apart from romance they also handle business, divorce, property issues, court cases and problems with spouses.

Mr Babu Gogineni, a member of an organisation campaigning for scientific thought, demanded laws against superstitions, and said that when top people like scientists consult Babas they set a bad example. He said that many people instead of approaching psychiatrists go to Babas with psychiatric problems.

The Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) says that most of the Babas were minting money exploiting public sentiments. “Many Babas have been exposed. Only awareness can stop this,” said Mr Lakshma Reddy of JVV. “People should not believe the bogus claims of Babas and should report them. We will definitely book the frauds,” said task force DCP Limba Reddy.
