Ex faculty seek Osmania University revival as chief guest skips fete
Hyderabad: The platinum jubilee celebrations of the Osmania University Arts College started on a rather simple note. While many former students reunited and clicked photographs, the chief guest and in charge V-C Vikas Raj, who is also the principal secretary (higher education department) of the Telangana government, was conspicuous by his absence.
The Arts College building was lit up in the colours of the Indian flag. Academ-icians and administrators, who have been associated with this premier institution, shared a few anecdotes and stressed on “regaining the lost glory” of the Arts College.
Prof. Shiv K. Kumar, the former principal, said, “We need to bring back the golden days and ensure that the college stands out as a premier university in the country.”
Prof. T. Tirupathi Rao, former Vice-Chancellor, talked of his long and transformative association with the Arts College and asked the students to realise their potential.
Another former principal, Prof. K. Madhusudhan Reddy, urged the authorities to maintain the iconic architectural marvel.
“This is a one-of-its-kind architectural masterpiece and we must strive to maintain it,” he said. Many former principals, deans, heads of departments, faculty and students attended the programme.
