Chhattisgarh government orders probe into CRPF martyr fatigue in dust bin

New Delhi: The Centre has asked the Chattisgarh government to fix responsibility for the disregard shown to the uniforms of the martyred jawans recently killed in an encounter with the Maoists in Sukma district.

Following outrage over the recovery of the uniforms belonging to martyred CRPF personnel in a garbage dump near a Raipur hospital, Union home minister Rajnath Singh intervened and asked the state to investigate the matter and punish those involved in “insulting” the troopers.

Meanwhile, the CRPF has also launched an inquiry into the incident and will submit a report to the home ministry.

The Union home minister said, he spoke to Chief Minister Raman Singh in this regard after it was brought to his notice that “the uniforms of the slain troopers were probably thrown away.”

Acting CRPF chief R.C. Tayal said the inquiry would be conducted by an officer deputed by the inspector general (operations).

Government sources said that according to the standard Operating Procedures, the uniform and other items worn by the combat soldiers should be handed over to local police as per procedure since the local police registers a case under sections of the CrPC and they are called a “case property” .

The sources said the lapses are possibly on part of both the local police and the hospital authorities.
