THRISSUR: In yet another case of brutality against children, a three and half year old girl, was admitted at the government hospital in Thriprayar, after allegedly being tortured by her father. Police arrested Cheruveetil Sumesh of Chithra Junction near Valappad.
According to KG Antony, Sub Inspector of Police, Valappad, Sumesh, a fisherman by profession, had disowned the kid and ordered her not to address him as ‘father’.
He used to beat up both the kid and the mother. On Tuesday evening, the accused thrashed his daughter from 5 PM to 8 PM. Sumesh also attacked his wife, Ragi, who tried to defend the child.
A neighbor of Sumesh, who heard the child’s screams, shifted both Ragi and the child to the nearby primary health centre.
“The ruthless attack against the child started when she was one ,” revealed Ragi. She also stated that Sumesh had tortured the girl in other ways.
On receipt of the complaint from Sumesh’s wife, police have filed a case under Juvenile Justice Act. After a request from Child line, the Valappad police had already registered a case six months ago.
