Congress to BJP: Not scared of your membership drive

Leaders of the ruling Congress in Karnataka said quality and not quantity matters
Bengaluru: Mocking at BJP leaders for rushing to bus stations and railway stations to enroll new members, leaders of the ruling Congress in Karnataka said quality and not quantity matters while signing on new members for the party.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, vice president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, Dr B. L. Shankar, observed that his party's membership drive always focused on booth-level registrations instead of the way in which BJP leaders in the state set about adding new members. "For us (Congress leaders) quality matters, unlike their (BJP leaders) focus on quantity," he added.
According to him, for any political organization, numbers at each polling booth matters, not those at bus-stations or railway stations though at such places one could reach out to many people at once. "We need to have our people in booths across the state instead of searching them in such places where BJP leaders carried out their membership campaign," he added.
The leader explained that his party was also aware of the fact that all those who enroll as members do not turn up to vote for that party. "The outcome of an election is determined by various factors, on how any ruling party had performed in the given tenure or on the incumbency factor. We may have large number of members, but on the day of polling, whoever is able to bring more people to a particular booth will help tilt the balance in our favour. Based on this, our party has been working on induction of members in ongoing membership drive which will continue till December 31," he added.
Earlier, BJP leaders during the membership drive had claimed that they wanted to overtake the Communist Party of China and become the largest political party in the world with maximum members. They had also said that they were working to strengthen the party base in South and East India and wanted to convert supporters into members.
