SC rejects Kerala's plea on safety of Mullaperiyar dam
It allows Tamil Nadu to raise water level at Mullaperiyar dam to 152 feet
Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed Kerala government's plea to review its May 7 verdict, allowing Tamil Nadu to raise water level at Mullaperiyar to 142 feet and ultimately to 152 feet after completing strengthening measures on the dam.
This was decided by a five- judge bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justices J Chelameswar, M B Lokur, M Y Eqbal and C Nagappan.
However, in a related development, the Central Wildlife Board gave the go ahead to the State Government to initiate the environment impact assessment study for a new dam at Mullaperiyar.
