Hinduja wooing both Telangana State, Andhra Pradesh to sell power
The project is expected to start generating power by February, 2015
Hyderabad: The controversy over the 1,040 MW Hinduja power project has heated up as the developers are now holding parallel talks with both states for power purchase agreements. The project is expected to start generating power by February, 2015.
Top officials from Hinduja held a preliminary round of discussions with Telangana state officials on power purchase possibilities on Wednesday. Talks are also on with AP officials simultaneously. Officials from AP, however, say that AP will not share any power as the plant is situated in Visakhapatnam.
TS had earlier asked the Southern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (SRLDC) to divide the 1,040 MW power from the Hinduja plant in 54:46 ratio, and schedule power supply accordingly.
However, AP government has maintained that TS will only get a share in the equity for the amount it invested in the project, but not the power as when the project was planned, their was no Power Purchase Agreement, and no allocations were slotted for any of the discoms.
TSTransco CMD D. Prabhakar Rao said that a preliminary round of discussions had been held with Hinduja officials and no decision had been taken. Discussions were held on short-term power purchase agreements and power purchase price too was discussed. Hinduja representatives will get back on the issue.
