Madras High court won’t stop December 6 events
Chennai: The Madras high court has dismissed a petition which sought to restrain the authorities from granting permission either to the Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam or any other organisation for conducting any procession or other events on the occasion of the anniversary of the demolition of Babri masjid on December 6. Justice V. Ramasubramanian dismissed the petition filed by the Hindu Munnetra Kazhagam by its general secretary K. Gopinath.
The judge said the petitioner is an advocate and he is also the general secretary of the Hindu Munnetra Kazhagam for the districts of Tirupur and Coimbatore. His grievance was that the Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam plans to conduct restoration of the Babri masjid. According to the petitioner, such processions and demonstrations, if allowed, will destroy peace and tranquility and the atmosphere of religious tolerance.
The judge said, as a matter of fact, the Hindu Munnani came up with two writ petitions seeking permission to hold demonstrations on the very same day - December 6 - at Thiruvennainallur and Villupuram. “Yesterday, I disposed of the petitions granting permission to the Hindu Munnani. Once permission is granted to the Hindu Munnani to hold demonstrations on December 6, it is completely unethical and unlawful to deny permission to organisations holding opposite point of view,” the judge added.
