Robbers open fire, grab cash bag with Rs 3.4 lakh
Hyderabad: A few hours after the police solved an armed robbery, two armed bikers opened fire with a revolver at Santosh-nagar and robbed '3.4 lakh from a railway employee in broad daylight on Wednesday.
The robbers followed the victim, V. Balaraju on a bike when he came out with money after withdrawing it from the SBI branch in Chandrayangutta, and stopped him in a lonely street at Rakshapuram colony. They opened fire at the ground when the victim refused to give the money bag. No one was hurt in the incident, police said.
Ironically, the South Zone police had arrested a gang who had looted money from a jeweller by pointing a revolver at him a few hours before the incident.
The victim, Balaraju, who is a resident of Arundhati colony, said he came out with the money bag along with his son at around 3 pm and started driving towards home.
“When we reached Rakshapuram street two men on an Apache bike overtook us and asked us to stop. They threatened us and demanded the money bag and when I refused one of them fired at the ground with a revolver. Due to fear we handed the bag to them and they drove away,” said Balaraju.
Police said that Balaraju who is a mechanic with the Railways withdrew the money to pay for a piece of land on Thursday.
Higher police officials said that they have got some clues about the criminals.
“The gang consists of more than two people. They followed him more than a kilometer from Chandrayangutta and they were not wearing any helmet or mask. The victim said that he can identify them,” said South Zone DC Satyanarayana.
Special teams have been formed to crack the case. Police sources said that a gang of old criminals who are professionals in armed robbery committed the offence.
A case has been registered against the criminals in Santosh Nagar police station for armed robbery and criminal intimidation.
