Bengaluru: Fifth child raped in five months

The molester was working as peon in the school
Bengaluru: A three-year-old girl has been allegedly raped by a 27-year-old man in a private school on Old Madras Road under Ramamurthynagar police station limits. The complaint was lodged on November 29, two days after the incident.
It came to light when the girl fell ill and refused to go to school. The victim told her mother about the sexual assault and also named the accused, who was identified as Nagaraj, a peon at the school. The police arrested him and sent him to judicial custody.
According to the complaint, Nagaraj had lured the minor girl with chocolates, took her to an empty classroom in the pre-nursery section after the morning prayers and sexually assaulted her.
The mother noticed that the child was not her usual self after returning from school and questioned her. When the girl revealed the incident, the mother immediately took her to a hospital where the sexual assault was confirmed. She later filed a police complaint. Acting swiftly, the police took Nagaraj into custody, subjected him to medical tests and sent him to the central prison.
A senior woman police officer, who was entrusted with the case, took the girl for a medical examination at B.R. Ambedkar Hospital.
The victim’s mother said that the child had exhibited similar behaviour in October and suspected that the three-year-old was a victim of repeated sexual abuse. The police, however, are still trying to establish the sequence of events. They have filed the cases against Nagaraj under Sections 5, 6, and 21 of the POCSO Act along with section 376 of IPC. The police have booked the school management under IPC Sections 188 and 336 which are disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant and act endangering life or personal safety of others.
Management was in dock earlier
Two other schools run by the same management were in the dock earlier for violating the Department of Public Instruction rules on the medium of instruction. The management runs a chain of schools throughout the city and recently two of its schools were in news for irregularities in CBSE affiliations. While a police complaint was lodged against one school, the DPI had issued a notice to the other school.
An inquiry by the DPI revealed that the school was violating the language policy and recognition conditions stipulated by the state government.
DPI officials said that Bengaluru North Academic District Block 3 Block Education Officer (BEO) V. Ramesh visited the school and submitted a report to the DDPI and DPI commissioner.
Sources said that though the school was given permission to run classes as per the existing language policy, it violated the norms. “It was running classes in English medium between Standard I and V. It is the only violation found in the inquiry,” The officer said.
“The school has permission to conduct all the classes and all the documents were proper. All the safety guidelines were in place,” the report stated.
