Vaiko questions Modi’s silence
Coimbatore: MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Tuesday wondered why Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued to be a ‘mute spectator’ to his party leaders in Tamil Nadu making veiled threats to the MDMK.While Swamy had tweeted that the MDMK should quit the NDA alliance, national BJP secretary H Raja had condemned Vaiko’s vociferous statements against Modi on various issues of national interest.
“I wonder why Modi is silent over such utterances by his party leaders,” he asked, during an interaction with media persons in Coimbatore on Tuesday. He was here to participate in a public meet.“Though I had criticised several leaders like late M.G. Ramachandran, Rajiv Gandhi, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and DMK chief Karunanidhi, none had issued threats, unlike what these BJP leaders have done now,” he said.
Thanking all political parties for extending their support to him and condemning the BJP leaders for their remarks, Mr Vaiko also cautioned his partymen against resorting to any forms of violence like burning effigy to condemn the BJP leaders.
“I had restrained my party men from reacting to such bad mouthing by BJP leaders. Let them ban MDMK, I will face it,” he said. Political parties such as DMK and PMK pitched in to support Vaiko by condemning the BJP leaders, who issued threats to him.
The BJP leaders like A. B. Vajpayee and L K Advani had an alliance with MDMK in the past well aware of his inclination and support towards the LTTE. “I was the one who lend my support to BJP leaders, when they could not step out of their houses during bomb blasts in Coimbatore in 1998. The BJP leaders should realize it,” he said.
