The Quick Verification exercise of vigilance was intended to save Mani

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V S Achuthanadnan on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Oommen Chandy of shieidling Finance Minister K M Mani in the bar bribe issue even as LDF attacked Deputy Speaker for taking disciplinary action against its legislators.

Speaking to reporters after the adjournment of the House following Opposition ruckus, Mr Achuthanandan said more than a month had passed since the bar owners came out with allegations against Mani along with evidence, but the government was yet to register a case and conduct proper investigations into the matter. He said the Quick Verification exercise of vigilance was intended to save Mani.

The veteran leader said the UDF Government was neck deep in corruption which was evident from solar case, Salim Raj land grab case, Plus Two allotment and bar bribe issue.

Bureaucrat T O Sooraj had threatened to expose the “big wigs” and similar statement was made by an IPS officer who had taken bribe.

The LDF leaders accused Deputy Speaker of taking unilateral disciplinary action against their legislators. CPM politburo member and deputy leader of opposition Kodiyeri Balakrishnan slammed the government on the Mani issue.
