Karunanidhi believes time ripe for MDMK to quit NDA

The leaders of both these parties have been saying the right things

Chennai: DMK president M Karunanidhi on Tuesday hinted at the possibility of the MDMK quitting the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and joining his camp for the state elections due next year. “A situation has been created now for the MDMK to leave the BJP alliance”, said Karunanidhi while slamming the BJP national secretary H. Raja for his attack on Vaiko because he spoke ill of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

There has been much speculation that the 91-year-old DMK chief was trying to sew up a formidable umbrella alliance comprising parties opposed to the AIADMK and the BJP for the next state poll. High on that list are the PMK and the MDMK. The leaders of both these parties have been saying the right things to build bridges with Karunanidhi while exchanging hostile criticism with the BJP despite being in the NDA— the Sri Lankan Tamil issue has been their main plank to attack the BJP and the PM.
