Compensation hurdle for land pool

Farmers seek 1,200 sq. yard developed land per acre, Rs 35000 annually
Hyderabad: Land pooling talks for the new capital between the AP government and farmers are mainly stuck at two points. T. Sravan Kumar, MLA of Tadikonda Assembly claimed that while the other issues have been cleared, the stalemate is about the extent of developed land to be given back to farmers and the compensatory amount per annum.
While the government has decided to give 1,000 square yards of developed land per acre of land pooled, the farmers and the land owners are demanding 1,200 square yards. Those who own riverfront land are demanding more than 1,400 square yards per acre.
Mr Sravan Kumar said, “The other issue is the yearly payment of Rs 25,000 as proposed by the government. The farmers are demanding Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 and the riverfront village land owners are demanding around Rs 75,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
Most of the farmers have agreed to land pooling and if a consensus is reached on these two issues, then it will be all clear.” Mr Kumar is part of the capital sub-committee and has been visiting villages to convince the farmers.
He said that the government has agreed to issue certificates, discuss the issue in the Legislative Assembly, complete the process in a year’s time and hand over the developed land to the farmers.
However, the farmers said there are many landowners, who haven’t agreed yet. M. Seshagiri Rao, a farmer from Rayapudi, said, “They had again invited some farmers to discuss the issue with the sub-committee in Vijayawada.
After the meeting we were told that the farmers, who were opposing it, would be taken to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for discussions. The government officials and the Cabinet sub committee didn’t give us anything in writing. The farmers, who claim to be giving their land, are demanding a proper package.
But, several villages on the riverfront, like Rayapudi, Lingayapalem, Uddadayunipalem, Mandadam, Malkapuram, Velagapdui, Venktapalem, Penumaka and Undavalli are against this.”
