In a bind, realtors ‘shift’ state capital
Realtors had made sizeable sums of money due to capital speculation
Vijayawada: The realtors of Krishna district, who were left stunned after the state government decided to establish the capital in Tullur, are now trying to regain lost ground.
These realtors had made sizeable sums of money due to speculation over the capital being established in Krishna district. However, many of their ventures, house plots and land that they banked upon to fetch them huge returns remained unsold following the decision to establish the capital in Tullur of Guntur instead of Nuzvid and Agiripalli of Krishna district. This left the realtors floundering about, trying to find ways to lure buyers.
One of the means they have adopted is deliberately spreading rumours that the state government will make a U-turn and establish the capital in Nuzvid and Agiripalli. This “confirmed news” is being pushed quite aggressively.
The “reason” being given is that the stiff resistance by farmers of the riverfront villages in the already announced capital region has forced the state government to rethink. The realtors are going a step further in front of some gullible people, saying that the state government is already drawing plans for the capital in Nuzvid and an announcement is imminent.
They even say that people have already started thronging these areas to buy properties as they have “authentic” information of the capital in Krishna district. This is despite the clarification by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu that Tullur will remain the capital and there was no question of a rethink on this decision.
Garimella Venkateswara Rao, a farmer of Surampalli in Gannavarm mandal still believes that his 1.5 acres land will turn to gold after the capital is established in the area. M. Swamy, a realtor of Nuzvid and T. Sivarama Krishna, a mediator of Agiripalli argue with anyone who counters their capital claims.
