Bengaluru: They built the Metro, forgot the toilets

Bengaluru Metro MD, however is pleading ignorance about the issue
Bengaluru: Scratch the surface, and our small town mores come tumbling out. While we pride ourselves on our metro, however limited its reach, what we didn't know, until feisty advocate Sudha K brought it to Deccan Chronicle’s attention is that it lacks even the most basic facilities, i.e, a toilet. So much for Swachcha Bharat!
Sudha, traveling from Malleswaram metro station to Peenya metro station ran up to a room marked Toilet, but was turned away by rude metro authorities who said the toilet was for the use of staff only, and that she could take it up with the Managing Director of the metro, if she wanted to.
Instead, Sudha lodged a police complaint at Peenya police station under section 341 and 354 of IPC; And submitted an application at the Women's Commission and the Human Rights Commission.
A startled Women's Commission chief Manjula Manasa decided to check Peenya metro station out for herself and was given the same treatment by rude metro employees. She then issued a summons to the managing director of Bengaluru metro and also appealed to Yeshwanthpur police station to initiate action against employees for their behaviour.
Says Manjula Manasa, "There are absolutely no facilities for the commuters. Thousands of people travel by metro everyday and basic amenities like toilet is a necessity, not a luxury. I have issued a notice to BMRCL to submit a report within 10 days." Managing Director of the metro, Pradeep Singh Kharola said "as of now, I am not aware of the incident." On not including toilet rooms at the metros, he says, "we will take up construction of toilet rooms depending on the requirement but people wait in the metro stations for hardly five minutes; hence the designs did not include toilets."
