Terror suspects shifted from Vellore to Puzhal

Shifting was done based on request from special investigation team of TN CB-CID

Chennai: The three terror suspects – ‘Police’ Fakruddin, Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik - arrested for a series of saffron killings and explosives cases in TN and Bengaluru – were shifted from Vellore prison to Puzhal jail on Tuesday. The three were taken out of Vellore jail in separate vehicles and reached Puzhal by noon on Tuesday. Sources said the shifting was done based on a request from the special investigation team of the Tamil Nadu CB-CID that arrested them in October 2013 from Chennai and Puttur, Andhra Pradesh.

The three men are allegedly involved in a series of killing of Hindu outfit leaders, including ‘Auditor’ Ramesh in Salem, Vellayappan and Aravind Reddy in Vellore.A special court has been set up in Poonamallee, near Chennai, to conduct trials for these cases alone. It was felt that logistically, it is better if the suspects are lodged in a prison near the court. “It will be easy to take them to court from Puzhal to Poonamallee rather than from Vellore,” a jail official said.

Apart from half-a-dozen murders they had committed during 2012 and 2013, the suspects were also allegedly involved in planting a bomb on the Jan Chetna yatra route of BJP leader L.K. Advani in 2011 in Madurai. The three are suspected to be a part of a group that planted a bomb which went off at the Bengaluru BJP office in April 2013.
