Bhopal gas tragedy: Victims to protest on 30th anniversary

Several hundred people were killed and scores of people were maimed for life

Bhopal: As the nation is observing 30th anniversary of gas leak tragedy, one of the worst industrial disaster of the world, hundreds are expected to take to streets to commemorate the victims of the tragedy.

On the intervening night of 2nd and 3rd December in 1984, several hundred people were killed and scores of people were maimed for life when the Methyl Isocyanate-MIC gas was leaked from the pesticide plant of Union Carbide.

An all religion prayer meeting is scheduled to be held this morning in Barkatullah Bhawan to pay the homage to the victims of gas tragedy.

Non government organizations organized torch rallies, protests and street plays on the eve of gas tragedy to demand justice for tragedy survivors.

The victims are demanding proper compensation, adequate medical care, disposal of toxic waste in and around Union Carbide factory premises and exemplary punishment to the accused of the tragedy criminal case.

They have also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard. Even after the thirty years of Bhopal gas tragedy, its victims continue to be plagued with a number of problems that have not been resolved yet.
