Salman Khan hit and run case: Expert tells court actor's blood alcohol content high

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan who made an appearance in the sessions court today for the ongoing 2002 hit and run case, was tested positive for alcohol content in the blood at the time of the accident.

According to reports, a forensic expert told the court that the alcohol content in the actor’s blood was much higher than the permissible limit.

According to a TV report the alcohol content in Salman’s blood measured 62mg, where as the permissible limit is only 30mg. The content was more than double the permissible limit.

On November 5, a witness (Chiky Pandey, brother of actor Chunkey Pandey) said the actor did not smell of liquor when he met him at his place a few hours after the mishap.

The actor had earlier been tried by a magistrate for a lesser offence of causing death by negligence, which entailed an imprisonment of two years, while the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder attracts a 10-year sentence. The magistrate, after examining 17 witnesses, had ruled that a case of culpable homicide was made out against the actor and referred it to the sessions court.

The trial of cases of culpable homicide are conducted by courts higher than magisterial courts. On September 28, 2002, the actor's car had allegedly rammed into a bakery, killing one person and injuring four others sleeping on the pavement outside.

In the recent development, the hearing has been adjourned till 15th December.
