We are expecting big crowd in India, says IPTL COO

Delhi leg of International Premier Tennis League to start from December 6

Singapore: Having witnessed a big crowd turnout in Manila, International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) Chief Operating Officer Eric Gottschalk said it is expected to be a full house in New Delhi, where the third leg of the League is scheduled to be held from December 6 to 8.

"In India, our venue is bigger but we are going to be full. We are going to be sold out," Gottschalk said chairing a press conference ahead of the three-day Singapore leg, which begins on Tuesday.

"We reached out target of about 10,000 spectators per venue per day in Manila," he added.

Manila, Philippines hosted the opening leg of the International Premier Tennis League from November 28 to 30.

Gottschalk is hopeful of having a daily full house at the 10,400-seat Singapore Indoor Stadium here as well during all three days.

He predicted that IPTL would become a "strong league" for tennis.

"We have found our own niche and we think this is something that has to decide how big it would become. But we are very fortunate to have such great stars and we are positive the teams would grow very strong," said Gottschalk.

"We believe this would become a very very strong property."

Gottschalk said IPTL was not competing with any other tennis or other sports tournaments.

"There are super stars and their fans wants to see them and not everybody has a chance to see the stars. So, we trying to bring them closer to their fans," he said.

"We are bringing in the best players and nobody has been able to do what Mahesh (Bhupathi) has done," he pointed out.

Talking about the new format, Gottschalk said: "I think there is a commitment for such a new format from the best players in the world. That would guarantee the success." The last leg of the League would be held in Dubai from December 11 to 13.
