Kozhikode: The state government has handed over the controversial Darul Huda sexual abuse case of Parakkadavu, Nadapuram, to the Crime Branch, much to the dismay of parents of the girl and women and child rights activists, who see this as another attempt to scuttle the ongoing police investigation into it.
The order to hand over the case to the Crime Branch was received by the Superintendent of Police, Vadakara on Monday, according to sources.
Many organizations have been on an indefinite strike at Nadapuram demanding the arrest of Mr Abdul Rahman Saqafi, representative of the Darul Huda school management, for his derogatory remarks against the girl, who was sexually abused by senior students, and her family.
The case has changed hands even as the police has come across evidence to support the claim that Mr Saqafi was involved in trying to hush up the case, allege activists.
In fact, the last police investigation team was reinstated after much public hue and cry after another team was assigned the job, they point out .
The father of the girl too alleges that the CB has been brought in to derail the investigation. “We were satisfied with the investigation led by Nadapuram Circle Inspector, A. S. Sureshkumar.
The sudden entry of the CB is another attempt to sabotage the case,” he charged.
Nadapuram MLA, E.K. Vijayan also alleged that the decision to bring in the Crime Branch had been taken to absolve the management in the case.
