The District Principal and Sessions Court remanded him

Kochi: The Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotics Special Cell on Monday arrested Murukesan alias Unni from Trippunithura on charges of selling drugs to students, among others.

It also seized from him 16 ampoules of a drug that contained buprenorphine which should be sold only against medical prescription.

“He used to purchase a packet with 25 ampoules for Rs 1,500 from Chandni Chowk in New Delhi and sell it here for Rs 500 to Rs 750 for an ampoule,” said T S Sasi Kumar, Circle Inspector, enforcement and anti-narcotic special squad.

“We arrested him from near the Tripunithura Government College on a tip-off.” The District Principal and Sessions Court remanded him.

The accused, a native of Manjummal, used to provide free doses to youths, especially students. Later, he would charge exorbitant rates for further doses.

He based his operations in Pananagad, Udayamperoor, Tripunithura and Fort Kochi. Murukesan is facing trial in a case in which he was found in possession of 76 ampoules in 2013.
