I couldn’t have asked for more:Kiku Sharda
By now every gesture and catch phrase that Kiku Sharda uses to play Palak on Comedy Nights With Kapil has become extremely popular.
Kiku says he is amazed at how popular his act has become. “Everywhere I go, people smile at me, ask me questions about why I do what I do.
I had been on Bigg Boss for Diwali and they were all going, “wo.. oh... oh... oh.. oh...’ and ‘Talk to my hand’ like my character does on Kapil’s show.
I am specially happy that so many children like what I do. If I had my way I’d only be doing my comic act on the Disney channel,” he says.
Kiku reveals that a lot of his signature dialogues come from his son.
“I love to observe children the way they talk and express themselves. ‘Talk to my hand’ is something I heard my son and his friends say.
Even when I was in the US attending college, it used to be a favourite snub for comments that we didn’t appreciate. So I incorporated it into the act. I never imagined it would become so popular.”
Kiku is at the moment completely consumed by his television commitment. “My cameo appearance in Happy New Year doesn’t mean I am seriously considering a shift to cinema, not at all.
Television is where I have my fan-base. Comedy Nights With Kapil is the number one show on Colors. And my other serial Akbar-Birbal is number one on Big Magic. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
Kiku admits that all this work means that he remains sleep-deprived and over-worked. “I barely get four hours of sleep everyday. I am shooting non-stop for CNWK and Akbar-Birbal. But it’s all worth it when people smile at me at traffic signals in warm recognition. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
