Red carpet disasters, style lacking in Tollywood

Why is the oomph and style seen in Bollywood lacking in Tollywood?
Hyderabad: It was touted to be one of the most high-profile events of the year, but the ‘Dine with Stars’ fundraiser for Visakhapatnam had a few turning up wearing their not-so-fashionable best.
While Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha stunned all with their gorgeous Indian ensembles, colleague Tamannaah Bhatia wore an absolutely ill-fitting number and actor Prabhas looked liked he had a coffee shop date.
But this was just the tip of the style-disaster iceberg as many celebrities were either underdressed or overdressed for the dinner. Which brings us back to that fashion debate when it comes to Bollywood events stars put in so much effort. Why can’t there be a bit of effort from our stars... especially when the invite reads ‘black tie’ and ‘fundraiser’.
Indrakshi Ria Pattanaik, personal stylist of Regina Cassandra, who has also styled Rakul Preet, explains, “Mumbai is the fashion capital and every top designer aims to have his/her creation worn by big stars.
Also celebrities are very competitive about their looks, not just in movies but even when they step out in public”. Tollywood, on the other hand, has a very relaxed culture. “Men especially, are not bothered too much about their looks,” she adds.
Designer Archana Rao, whose clothes are worn by Lakshmi Manchu and Samantha, says, “You can’t force actors to dress in a certain way. Each one dresses according to his/her taste and individuality. ”
Some also admit that they can’t really afford to splurge on an outfit that they will perhaps wear only once. Actress Richa Panai confesses, “I picked up my dress from a boutique in Mumbai. It’s not a designer outfit. I honestly can’t afford expensive labels for every event. I can’t splurge like the rest of the stars. I have a fixed budget and I try to be sensible.
“I agree T’wood has a long way to go but we’ll get there. Actresses such as Shruti Haasan and Samantha are already making style statements.”
