Veteran comedian Deven Verma dies at 78

Angoor, Chor Ke Ghar Chor and Chori Mera Kaam won him the best comedian award

Mumbai: Deven Verma, who has won awards for his comic roles in 'Angoor', 'Chor Ke Ghar Chor' and 'Chori Mera Kaam', 'Andaz Apna Apna', passed away on Tuesday at 2am in Pune. According to reports, the veteran actor suffered a heart attack and a kidney failure.

He was one of the most talented actors of his time and has acted in over 130 movies. His talent and hard work got him to work with biggest names in the business like Basu Chatterji, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Gulzar. Married to Rupa Ganguly, daughter of late actor Ashok Kumar, Deven also explored Marathi and Bhojpuri cinema.

The actor was last seen in movies in 2003 release Calcutta Mail where he played the role of Rani Mukherjee’s grandfather.

The funeral will be held at the Yerawada crematorium on Tuesday afternoon.
