IPL spot-fixing case: Allegations against me are false, Srinivasan tells SC

Srinivasan told apex court he sped up actions when heard about Gurunath Meiyappan's role

Mumbai: Former BCCI chief N Srinivasan told the Supreme Court on Monday all allegations against him – that he was aware of betting but failed to take any action – were false.

At an International Cricket Council (ICC) event earlier in the day, Srinivasan had said the image of Indian cricket had not been tarnished in the wake of allegations of spot-fixing.
The Mukul Mudgal probe panel, in its report submitted to the apex court, had said Srinivasan was aware of betting in the Indian Premier League but had not acted against the guilty.
Srinivasan told the court that he had immediately orderd an inquiry into spot-fixing allegations against his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyyapan.
The apex court had been extremely caustic in its last hearing into the IPL spot-fixing case, observing that Srinivasan’s ownership of Chennai Super Kings was in conflict of interest with his role as the cricket body chief.

The apex court had also observed that the franchise Chennai Super Kings should be scrapped before further enquiry. The Supreme Court had also criticised Srinivasan’s reported ‘delay’ in instituting an enquiry panel to probe spot-fixing allegations.

Srinivasan replied to court on Monday that he has been extremely prompt in actions.

"All allegations of cover-up against me are false. Image of cricket has not been tarnished. I acted with speed when I got to know about allegations against my son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan," said Srinivasan.
